Denmark, Basketball and a Box.
The Box is gonna rock.
It's been a busy month here at WWRC15 towers. After 4 days in Denmark at the IWRF World Championships, it's clear that all the teams taking part in WWRC 15 are very excited about returning to London and the Olympic Park. The action in Denmark was pretty intense and GB came very close to defeating Canada after an amazing double overtime game. Canada then went on to conquer defending champions USA in the semi final with Zak Madell having a brilliant game.
in the final Australia's big hitters Batt and Bond proved too much for Canada to handle but it's clear that the game at the top is getting closer, GB were 5th overall but a point off beating the eventual silver medallists! With an updated World ranking, we now have 7 of 8 attending nations ranked in the top 9 in the World.
On home ground we were delighted to visit the Copper Box and see the Great Britain basketball team in action against Iceland. Seeing live sport in there made it much easier to envisage how the Wheelchair Rugby athletes will enjoy the surroundings and for us as an organising group to see how best to deliver an amazing event. Sadly GB just lost out to Iceland and with that their Olympic qualifying hopes were dashed. Basketball still feels like a sport that hasn't reached it's potential in this country and we were very impressed with the professionalism of the team who stayed behind to sign balls and be part of the many 'selfies', despite their obvious disappointment.
So with some great research done we are now set to build an incredible event for you all to enjoy...be there!
Btw we hope you like our new website...the colours have come from the happy coincidence that all the competing nations have red and white in their flags!
